Beats That I Ride a Bike To

I have been asked the following by several people, "So Nick, you say your music is beats to ride a bike to. Well, you must ride your bike to some kind of soundtrack too, what is it?"

I will begin by stating that I fully condone the reckless act of blaring music into headphones while you ride. As long as you maintain a strict awareness of your surroundings and the death-machines that hog the road, you can crank that shit up as loud as possible. I have only been hit once, by a snowplow – and the driver did it on purpose. At all times I ride my bike as defensively as the guy who drives the pope-mobile.

I have two very important playlists on my iPod, "Intervals" and "Time Trial." Each are used to extract extra effort and adrenaline into my workouts. This is the music that inspires the final sprint, that last 100 feet in the climb and that final rep buried in my legs. The following list is a few random songs from my playlists, links to samples are supplied via Windows Media when available.

  1. "The Brazilian" Genesis, Invisible Touch
  2. "Hersey" Nine Inch Nails, Downward Spiral
  3. "Down Rodeo" Rage Against the Machine, Evil Empire
  4. "Bring It On" by the Geto Boys, Till Death Do Us Part
  5. "I'm Raving" L.A. Style, L.A. Style
  6. "Road to Nowhere" Talking Heads. Little Creatures
  7. "Pure Morning" Placebo, Without You I'm Nothing
  8. "Flower" Moby, Play: The B Sides
  9. "When the Levee Breaks" Led Zeppelin, Zoso
  10. "Temptation Waits" Garbage, Version 2.0
  11. "Westside Story" The Game The Documentary
  12. "Station to Station" David Bowie, Station to Station
  13. "We Live This Shit" Cypress Hill, Skull & Bones
